Bruising After Blood Draw

I had blood drawn for just the second time during my pregnancy last Thursday (first time was initial visit to confirm) and the next day, my arm started bruising around the needle site...it was bluish.  So, it's now Sunday night and the bruise seems a bit bigger, but lighter (more brownish like it is healing).  The tech only stuck me once (it's not like she had to try multiple times) and it seemed like there were no problems.  Has anyone had this problem?

@IzziesMama2011,

Hey:) The tech could have done everything right, and you still could bruise. I wouldnt worry at all.

@IzziesMama2011,

I bruise every time I get my blood drawn and the women who have done it throughout this pregnancy are fabulous. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

@IzziesMama2011,

Almost everytime for me and I can't even count how many times I've been stuck. :)

@IzziesMama2011,

I bruised every-time when they drew my blood. It took a week for mine to heal completely and for it to look normal again. You should be okay.

@IzziesMama2011,

I bruise every time. On occasion, if the veins are not cooperating I'll get a bruise/blood bubble that requires me apply pressure for several minutes after the withdrawal. My bruises always last long too, but nothing to cause concern.

@IzziesMama2011,

Oh yes I always bruise terribly. I have a green arm for about a week and a half, it's lovely

Yes it happens to me if I don't apply enough pressure after getting my blood drawn. I never really bruise though, except when I got my IV when I was induced with DD.

@IzziesMama2011,

I just want to mention that easy bruising could indicate low iron levels and/or anemia. If you notice other areas of your body that have bruises that don't normally have them, you might want to mention that to your doctor. A single bruise from a puncture is fairly common though. I've had a few technicians/nurses draw my blood that have left huge bruises and it's almost always because the person stuck me too hard or used a needle that was too large (I have small veins). HTH!
